Jump Racing was back at Fontwell Park yesterday behind closed doors

It was good to have jump racing back at Fontwell Park yesterday, opening with a competitive Novices Hurdle over two miles one furlong, albeit behind closed doors.

The race was won by trainer Colin Tizzard, who sent out French-bred Furkash at 11-2 to win the race under a good ride from jockey Jonjo O’Neill Junior. This horse ran well, and held off a challenge for the lead two out, taking over with a well-time challenge aat the last to beat Lord Baddesley, 10-11 favourite, trained by Chris Gordon and ridden by Joahua Moore.

Trainer Linda Jewell gained third place with Iconic Flight, ridden by Dave Crosse at 400-1. Favourite Lord Accord, trained by Neil Mulholland and ridden by Brendan Powell came to grief at the 4th, when blundering and unseating his rider.

There was a popular local victory in the John Rogerson Memorial Novices Handicap Chase over two miles five furlongs when 10-3 shot Mister Murchan scored a good win for local trainer Richard Rowe, who is based at Sullington. Brendan Powell Jr gave the horse an excellent ride.
